Heydar Aliyev was elected President of the Republic of Azerbaijan with 98.84 % of votes as the result of the presidential election of 1993
The presidential election of October 3, 1998 was the third official election to the post of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Overall, 3 358 465 voters participated at the election. Leader of the New Azerbaijan Party Heydar Aliyev gained a confident victory by winning 3 919 923 votes (98.84 %) and was elected President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Presidential election of 1993 was an important historic event for the Azerbaijani people and the first step on the road to salvation for the independent state of Azerbaijan. By making a right decision Azerbaijani people elected Heydar Aliyev, their great son and genius politician, as president with overwhelming majority of votes at the election, and that choice became the cornerstone of present-day powerful Azerbaijan. Besides being the beginning of a new stage in the development of the New Azerbaijan Party, the results of the election put significant tasks on the party to confirm its leading position in the political system of our country and most importantly to participate in the processes of sovereign state-building more closely.
